A reflection on memory, loss, and the sea
I wrote these words over two years ago. Not long after, I found myself at Carrowmore Beach in North Mayo with Aurore for a photoshoot – we had a great time, took plenty of photos, and I ended up pairing one of them with this poem in an online post. People seemed to connect with it.
Only afterwards did I learn that this beach was her father’s favourite place. He visited every time he came from France. He’s since passed on. Somehow, the words I’d written before knowing any of that felt like they belonged to the tide, to the silence, to him.
A place he loved. A moment we shared.
A Silent Tide
A silent tide ebbs and flows
in our quiet corner of being.
In this sacred space,
amid the labyrinth of thoughts and emotions,
we gaze into the depths of our soul.
A person remembers.
Shadows cast a solitary figure.
Moments of being alone.
In the quiet sanctuary of the sea
we find solace and renewal
If you like these words, I’ll be sharing more – when it feels right.
