A month of small stories, weather, and the photos people loved most
Here we are at the end of another month in this 365 project, and somehow I’ve managed to take and post a photo every single day. Some days it feels effortless. Other days, I’m scraping the barrel, trying to find something – anything that feels meaningful. I know I should embrace the mundanity of daily life, but the photographer, the image‑maker, the storyteller in me always wants a little more.
February had its own rhythm. I had my personal favourites, of course, but Facebook had other ideas. These were the four most‑liked images of the month, with the accompanying text.

Funny how one small thing can change the whole scene.
A small thing left behind and a big thing we never seem to learn.
Coke Cola – It’s the real thing – just not the thing the lake asked for.

Today, I drove to the end of the world.
I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but – leans in, whispers – “it’s down a narrow boreen somewhere in Mayo.”
When I finally reached it, the gate was closed. Maybe it’s a half‑day on Fridays.
Still, I found myself imagining what it could be. A little road skirting off to the left of Ben Gorm, a tiny stop‑off where you could get a cup of coffee, maybe a bun, and pick up a souvenir – a t-shirt, mug or cap that says, “I’ve been to the End of the World – and all I got was this lousy mug.”
Then the road would wander on toward Ballycroy National Park. Not a big road that invites mass tourism – just a quiet track for the curious and the keen.
Just an idea.

Monday, bloody Monday.
It’s Monday … again. I’ve never liked them … never have. We just don’t get on … never seen eye to eye. It’s not Monday … it’s me.
On this day, I usually try to keep myself busy, as I did today, right up until mid‑afternoon when I needed to get away from the screen.
So I took myself off to a familiar hunting ground. The rain was hammering down, the wind cutting across the valley, and the oppressive cloud was pressing low over everything – perfect.
People often ask if I have any “nice” photos of Mayo. A little part of me dies inside every time I hear that. I know what they mean – a happy lake glowing in sunshine, Croagh Patrick bathed in warmth and nostalgia, the postcard version of the county.
But I’m afraid I don’t really do “nice” Mayo landscapes. I’m more of a Monday landscape kind of guy. And today, this weather fits my mood perfectly.

You cannot turn back the clock, but you can go out with good company, have a few beers and pretend it’s ticking a little slower than it really is.
A picture of myself taken in the pub. Personal photos tend to generate more engagement on Facebook, whether they’re good or not.
It must be said that the captions appear to matter. Sometimes I think a photo is mediocre, but the words seem to land with people. Maybe I should try a month of photos only and see what happens.
For what it’s worth, this shot below is my personal favourite of the month. And like 2 of the above, it was taken with the GoPro Hero 11, as were a total of 14 images shot in February.

This evening, the sky became water, and the water became sky.
I looked up into the place where the gods look down.
So there you have it. Let’s see what March brings. Thanks for following along, and if you want to see the entire project so far, pop over to my Facebook page.
